For those of us that are new to Aion, I thought I would put up some info which can help with getting use to the game.
List of Aion Hints:
These are general hints. There will be some class specific hints in the class forums.
Hint #1
If you aren't playing in the USA then consider purchasing something like Lower ping at Lowerping.com. It helps alot even though it costs money, it makes this game playable. Of course there are other companies that offer similar services.
Hint #2
Reallocate your "Auto Run" key in the game options.
Hint #3
Set up more hotkey bars in game options.
Hint #4
Use SHIFT+F12 in Cities or if siege raids, as this hides all character bodies except of NPC and enemies. You can still see their names and click on them if you target them correctly. This improves lag tremendously in cities.
Hint #5
Use work orders to level your crafting.
Hint #6
Aether extradicting so much easier if your level 25 for the flight speed increase or level 30 when you have another extra minute to fly- if you got the wings.
Hint #7
Make use of macros.
Hint #8
Use Pathfinding (/where [name]) or use www.aionarmory.com when stuck or trying to find someone.
Hint #9
Read as many guides on the forums as you can.
Hint #10
Disable left click on target auto-approach, some people might accidentally walk to a target when they left click it, if this is activated.
Hint #11
Change the color of your channels
Hint #12
Add channels specific for Legion, whispers and importantly Asmo attack and check them periodically so you do not miss something important.
Hint #13
This is a big one.....Enjoy the game
Hint #14
If you die, try to ask your group members not to kill your quest mob. Because when dead you will not get credit for killing quest mobs, particularly named quest mobs. For example if you die whilst killing Ziloota the Seer for the Flying Recon quest, you will not get credit for it.
Hint #15
Make sure your in the right channels. Veretron/Poeta have 5 channels, meaning if your friend and yourself are in the same spot, but in different channels you may not see each other. To change the channel simply go to Menu>Help & Support>Channels.
Hint #16
Make extensive use of wwww.aionarmory.com
Hint #17
Unlike most other MMOs, Aion does not follow the "Whoever tags the mob first gets the credit/loot" system. However in Aion, it comes down to whoever does the most damage to the mob. So for example if you take 51% hp off the mob and the other guy only 49% hp and you guys are not grouped, you will get the credit for the kill and the loot. This is often referred as kill-steal.
Hint #18
Alot of people asks in the LFG channel where the Rifts are, even though there are none connecting to Asmodae. When the message says "A Rift connecting to Elysea has appeared" it means that the Asmodian may enter our world, but not us them. Only "A Rift connecting to Asmodae has appeared" means we get a rift that we can use to go their world.
Hint #19
Best to leave spy quests until level 30+, and even then its best to have a lvl 40 in your group.
Hint #20
To preview armor on yourself, simply use CTRL+ LEFT CLICK. This will work if its a chat link of the item, only if you can actually see the item on the broker or on another person.
Hint #21
To link items in the chat simply CTRL+RIGHTCLICK the item. This works with quests too.
Hint #22
Some group quests don't automatically update, such as Missing Poppy, Finding Melginie (The Manduri's Secret after the Paper Glider). Even though it DID NOT update, if you follow the person who spoke to Poppi/Melginie, you will eventually finish the quest once the checkpoint is reached.
Hint #23
You can set yourself a Note, that people may see when they hover over your character. The note can be set by pressing the hotkey V > Friend List Tab. There you see a column that says "Note" and a Disk to the right of it. Some people may not see the "Note" as they may accidentally have deleted it. You can change the note there saying for example [RP]. This in particular allows players to see that you are a RP'er and that you will engage in that play style.
Hint #24
Try to share quests to group members it may save you time if the quest can be shared.
Hint #25
This website shows all the vitality extraction and aether extraction : www.aionproject.net/
Hint #26
The use of transformation candy (made from cooking or given from participating in surveys from events), will remove your 'success animation' when crafting or gathering. This will help you save around 1.5 second each time u craft or gather successfully or fail. If you use this to say smelt 400 titanium ore, it will stack up significantly and save time, or even gathering aether as it will save time flying.
However note that you may not cast spells or fight (so not really good to use in the abyss ), and only a few candy versions allows you to fly (Sparkie Candy for example for aether). But all candies will be useful for vitality gathering/crafting.
